Getting Back Into the Swing of Things

May 16, 2021

Taking two weeks off of exercise sucks. I hate it. But that’s exactly what I had to do, thanks to the plantar fasciitis in my left foot, and the injury in my right knee. It’s a good thing to let the body heal, so I’m trying to be good, and not rush back into exercise. I don’t want to aggravate anything.

The first week of no exercise was tough, because I missed it, and yearned for it. But then, in the second week, I swung to the far other end of the pendulum and start thinking maybe I’ll never exercise again, and I’m just fine with that thought.

Eyeball Lick! (A Week In The Life of a Foot Injury)

June 5, 2019

Wednesday, May 29, 2019: I wake up and can barely walk. My foot, specifically the area around the base of my big toe, is in excruciating pain. What’s especially frustrating is that I don’t know how I injured it. There was no clear moment, the day prior, where I remember rolling it, landing on it funny, or falling. But I did something, because the pain is intense.

There’s no exterior signs of trauma: no swelling, no redness, no cuts or bruises, no bones protruding out of my body. So I start Read the rest of this entry »

My Final Training Session on the Stairs. How Did My Foot Fare?

September 29, 2016

The US Bank Tower race is on Friday. I’ve been looking forward to it for months. Unfortunately, my foot still isn’t 100% better (and that’s still frustrating as hell). Call me crazy, but I’m not bailing. I may not be able to race up like a speed demon, like I’ve done in previous years, but I will still make it to the top!

And I proved that I could on Tuesday night, when I attended the final official training session before the race. Here’s what happened:

The Most Frustrating Thing About My Foot

September 22, 2016

On Saturday, I aggravated my foot injury while hiking. The very same injury that sidelined me at the beginning of the month, the one that sabotaged my motivation. And just when I had finally pulled myself out of that hole, that hike pushed me right back in. UGH! Sidebar: Injury aside, it was a great hike. I scattered my dog’s ashes, spent quality time with friends, and Tavi took this picture, which I absolutely love:

So, this week has been spent nursing my bum foot. Again. To catch everyone up, I have a Read the rest of this entry »

September Weigh-In and Workout Progress Report

September 1, 2016

Before I start with the scale, charts, data and all that, here’s how I’ve been spending 30-minute chunks of time, two or three times a day:

I mentioned at the end of my last post that my foot was starting to bother me, and what I really should’ve said was that it was bothering me a whole lot. It’s painful all the time and it hurts to Read the rest of this entry »

The Worst Race Recap Ever

June 8, 2015

On Saturday, hundreds of people competed in the Tower 2 Tower stair race in Oxnard, California. I’ve been planning on being there for months now, but I did not race that day. And that makes this recap the worst recap ever.

Long story short: I injured myself a few days prior.

Long story long: On Wednesday, I decided to Read the rest of this entry »

Foot Update AND Solve My Tree Maze

October 29, 2014

Being laid up with an injured foot means lots of time sitting around. A few days ago I took advantage of my being unable to walk around and drew a maze. Check it out:

The goal is to connect the two orange leaves. Yes, I know, leaves are Read the rest of this entry »

It’s Been How Long Since I’ve Blogged?

August 9, 2013

Yikes – it’s been a little over a week since I’ve posted anything on here. I never intended to go quiet for so long, but it just sorta happened. It hasn’t been the greatest week, are struggles are never fun to write about, but these are the sort of weeks where blogging becomes more important. I started this site as a way to stay accountable, so if I don’t own up to what’s been going on, than what’s the point?

In a nutshell: my eating hasn’t been great and I haven’t been exercising, and I’m in a bit of a funk. It can all be traced back to Thursday of last week, when I woke with pain in my foot. It wasn’t unbearable – it felt like perhaps I slept funny on it or something, and I went about my day. That evening, I exercised on a recumbent bike. I thought I’d be fine, since that kind of bike is no-impact and doesn’t requiring putting any weight on my foot.

Big mistake. On Friday, the pain was Read the rest of this entry »
