If I had to describe my look in that photo, I’d say I was apprehensive. And that’s because it’s been months since I’ve trained in a skyscraper stairwell – since April – and I knew this workout was going to be a challenge. And it was. Read the rest of this entry »

The US Bank Tower race is on Friday. I’ve been looking forward to it for months. Unfortunately, my foot still isn’t 100% better (and that’s still frustrating as hell). Call me crazy, but I’m not bailing. I may not be able to race up like a speed demon, like I’ve done in previous years, but I will still make it to the top!
And I proved that I could on Tuesday night, when I attended the final official training session before the race. Here’s what happened:

It’s been nearly two months since I’ve raced or trained in a stairwell. After the TOWERthon in June, I was ready for a break. That was my 9th stair race in six months! Now, though, I have to start getting ready for my fall stair races. And that meant… time to get back in the stairwell!
I didn’t waste any time. I returned to Los Angeles on Saturday, and my stair training began Read the rest of this entry »

There is nothing more exhilarating than standing on a skyscraper roof, looking for miles in every direction, after a stair climb race. I get the same chills every time, including this past Saturday, when I competed in the Los Angeles CF Climb for the third consecutive year.
It was an eventful, satisfying morning, and one that started on the wrong foot, when I arrived at the race and realized Read the rest of this entry »

I went on a spree over the weekend and registered for stair races that will keep me busy between now and December. The first one is less than two weeks away! And it’s in this behemoth:

Another weekend, another race! On Saturday, I competed in my third stair race of the past two weeks. Whereas the first two were in Chicago (in Willis Tower and 300 North LaSalle), this race was close to home, in the Figueroa at Wilshire building in downtown Los Angeles. It’s 54 stories from sidewalk to roof.
I didn’t feel great going into this race. I typically Read the rest of this entry »

Lots of little updates today. I’m gonna talk about exercising, my goals, stair climbing, and more. I even have a malicious molasses update, so why dilly-dally? Let’s get started! Read the rest of this entry »

Problem: I have stair races coming up in a few weeks, starting with a climb to the 103rd floor of the Willis (formerly Sears) Tower in Chicago. I haven’t been in a stairwell since my last race, at the US Bank Tower, a few weeks ago. I need to train!
Solution: Time to find a skyscraper to train in! The other night, I did just that.
This is the Read the rest of this entry »

I’m super excited about this post, but before I spill the beans about my big announcement, I have a video to share! My sister challenged me to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, so here’s the video of me getting a bucket of ice water dumped over my head:
Anything for charity, am I right?
OK. Announcement time! Last month, I Read the rest of this entry »

Damn, Saturday was an exciting day! I competed in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s CF Climb, and it was a milestone race.
Not only was it my 5th stair climb race, but it was my 10th race overall! (That number also includes a 5k, three 10ks, and an open water swim. Read about all of them on my Races & Events page.)
BEST YET, I set a personal record! More on that later. First, check out the building I scaled: The 54-story Figueroa at Wilshire building in downtown Los Angeles:
