At the beginning of the year, I set out to complete a great big fitness challenge: in honor of my 40th birthday, I decided to compete in 40 races in 2019. I’m happy to share that I’m halfway to my goal, and have achieved some notable accomplishments along the way, including – drum roll please – my first-ever age group podium win!
I’m going to get into details of that age group podium win shortly, but first, some big picture stats. I’ve done 20 races since the beginning of January. I’ve done more races in the past five months than I’ve ever done in any previous year. Wow. Read the rest of this entry »

Check this my dinner tonight: healthy, gorgeous, and best of all, delicious.

The salad is a salad kit from the store. And there’s some avocado in the upper left. But don’t focus on that stuff… focus on the fish. That’s a piece of cedar plank smoked salmon, and you’ll never want to cook salmon any other way. Read the rest of this entry »

I took a lot of photos during my long weekend in the Upper Peninsula to go to the Red Bull 400. I wanted to remember this trip. Despite growing up in Michigan, I’ve barely spent any time there before!

Did I take too many photos? You be the judge. Read the rest of this entry »

I love getting high. And before any of you jump to conclusions, I’m talking about stair races. I’ve raced the stairwells in all sorts of tall (and very tall) skyscrapers, but this past weekend I got to experience a whole new way to get high – by racing up a ski jump at the Red Bull 400.

This is an absolutely bat-crap crazy event, and it had my stomach in all sorts of knots. Read the rest of this entry »

I love trying new varieties of fruits and vegetables. So I was very excited to see a basket of green vegetables at the store labeled “Shanghai.”

They look like little baby bok choys, but who knows? Maybe they’re something completely different! Only one way to find out… bring some home and eat them! Read the rest of this entry »

I recently shared a recipe for Avocado Deviled Eggs that included a tantalizing tease: another recipe from our Easter meal that was sure to whet your appetite. Well, I wasn’t planning for it to take two more weeks to get this post up, but it did. File this one under ‘better late than never!’
The Avocado Deviled Eggs was one of two dishes Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve done eight stadium races in the past five years, at three different southern California stadiums (Angel Stadium, the LA Memorial Coliseum, and the Rose Bowl). My ninth stadium race was this past weekend at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana, and it was longer and harder than any of the others.

The race is called Storm the Stadium, and it was put on by Read the rest of this entry »
