The US Bank Tower race is on Friday. I’ve been looking forward to it for months. Unfortunately, my foot still isn’t 100% better (and that’s still frustrating as hell). Call me crazy, but I’m not bailing. I may not be able to race up like a speed demon, like I’ve done in previous years, but I will still make it to the top!

And I proved that I could on Tuesday night, when I attended the final official training session before the race. Here’s what happened:

Check it out, it’s my new buddy Rufus! I brought Rufus home from the animal rescue yesterday, and he’s already bringing me so much joy.

He’s ready to go check out his new home!
Rufus is a mutt, but he’s a big part Mastiff, with maybe some Read the rest of this entry »

On Saturday, I aggravated my foot injury while hiking. The very same injury that sidelined me at the beginning of the month, the one that sabotaged my motivation. And just when I had finally pulled myself out of that hole, that hike pushed me right back in. UGH! Sidebar: Injury aside, it was a great hike. I scattered my dog’s ashes, spent quality time with friends, and Tavi took this picture, which I absolutely love:

So, this week has been spent nursing my bum foot. Again. To catch everyone up, I have a Read the rest of this entry »

If it looks like a grain-based salad, and it tastes like a grain-based salad, it’s gotta be a grain-based salad, right?

WRONG! There’s not a single grain on that plate. I made this salad with… Read the rest of this entry »

In August, when I got back to Los Angeles after six weeks out of town, the first thing I did was pick up my dog Maude’s remains.

I ended up leaving town two days after her passing, but I made arrangements with the crematory before leaving, and they kindly held her ashes until I got back. I didn’t know what to expect as I Read the rest of this entry »

It’s been a while since I’ve shared songs from my workout playlist. It’s the perfect topic for 3WAYS2, my new recurring post featuring tips, tricks and suggestions across the entire health, fitness, and weight loss spectrum. Today’s topic is (obviously) workout music. Good music makes my workouts (and races!) fly by, and here are three songs that I currently love to play while Read the rest of this entry »

Check out my new medals rack! And then, when you’re done checking out the rack, check out all my medals!

I’ve been earning medals for a few years now, by competing in races. For years, I didn’t have a good way to display them, so I piled them up in Read the rest of this entry »

On paper, it looks like I’ve had some awesome workouts in the past few days. On Thursday night, I climbed a 51-story building four times…

…and then, less than 48 hours later, I climbed a Read the rest of this entry »

I have some great tips on fun ways to eat hard-boiled eggs, but first, a quick shout-out to my pal Dawn Jackson Blatner, because she inspired this post. I met Dawn at the Fitbloggin’ conference a few months ago, and she had sets of three simple tips and tricks for everything. It was very impressive, and rather brilliant: It’s easy to remember three ideas, and easy to share them, too.
So I devised 3WAYS2, which I’m planning on making a recurring post on this blog. These posts will be devoted to sharing 3 ways that you can make positive changes in regards to your health and weight loss efforts. They may be about Read the rest of this entry »

I resisted for years, but over the weekend, as I was laid up with an injured foot, I finally bit the bullet and joined Snapchat.
