A Tremendous Weekend at Fitbloggin’

June 30, 2015

I was in Denver this past weekend for Fitbloggin’, an annual conference for health, fitness and weight loss bloggers. I’ve only been once before, two years ago, and I was excited to go back, for a few reasons:

  1. I get to see friends, meet new people, and hang out with folks that do the same thing I do.
  2. I SPOKE THIS YEAR!

Two Awesome Farmers Market Finds

June 24, 2015

I’m racing to get a bunch of stuff done before leaving for the Fitbloggin’ conference in Denver, so this one’s short and sweet. I met up with my friends Heather and Nancy at the Hollywood Farmers Market over the weekend, and found two things that practically made me jump up and down. Two!

1) ROMANESCO BROCCOLI!

Chicken with Tarragon, Grapefruit, and Olives

June 23, 2015

I wanted to continue my little streak of cooking and eating citrus fruit, peel and all, so I came up with an easy, simple chicken recipe and tried it out on a couple friends who came to dinner. My recipe is inspired by a delicious meal my friend Katherine made in Sweden, which in turn was inspired by a Martha Stewart recipe. Leave it to me to mess around with Martha’s perfection!

Sweden, Part Three: An Exercise Adventure!

June 22, 2015

Months ago, while talking to Katherine about my upcoming visit, I casually mentioned how cool it would be to climb the stairs at Kaknästornet, the tallest structure in Stockholm. I could be an international stair climber! Kaknästornet is a TV satellite tower that stands 509 feet tall, with a restaurant and bar at the top, and Katherine wanted to climb the stairs, too!

kaknastornet

It’s hard to compare height with nothing nearby, and there is literally nothing nearby. Kaknästornet was built in a forest a few kilometers from the center of town.

Even though it’s open to the public, the stairs are not, and I mentioned it to Katherine as a joke, knowing full well access would be impossible. To my surprise, Katherine and her husband Peter actually know a guy that knows guys at Kaknästornet, and they offered to make a call! Perhaps this wouldn’t be impossible after all!

Sweden, Part Two: A Meal Fit For a Prince

June 19, 2015

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden have three children: Crown Princess Victoria, who tied the knot in 2010, Princess Madeleine, who got married in 2013, and Prince Carl Philip, who became a married man just last weekend. Here I am with the happy couple:

Sweden, Part One: A Week in the Countryside

June 18, 2015

A friend reached out, asking if everything was OK, since it had been 10 days since I’ve put up a blog post. I told him I’m great, which is true, and I hadn’t been able to post because I’ve been… in Sweden!

The Worst Race Recap Ever

June 8, 2015

On Saturday, hundreds of people competed in the Tower 2 Tower stair race in Oxnard, California. I’ve been planning on being there for months now, but I did not race that day. And that makes this recap the worst recap ever.

Long story short: I injured myself a few days prior.

Long story long: On Wednesday, I decided to Read the rest of this entry »

Do You Know What These Are? The Answer May Make Your Head Explode!

June 4, 2015

I hate clickbait headlines, but they sure are fun to write! I’m fairly certain your head will remain intact after reading this article, but hopefully the subject matter will intrigue, educate, and delight you, because it did me. I found something at the store last week that I never seen before, and since I’m a curious sonofabitch, I bought some.

Do you know what these are?

June Weigh-In Results and Workout Progress Report

June 3, 2015

Remember the depression I mentioned last week? I’m feeling much better (thank you for all your messages and encouragement!), but I gotta address that depression one last time, because it had an effect on my weight. I do a weigh-in on the first of every month, and this one came after nearly two weeks of feeling kinda low. As a result, this is what I added to my weight loss chart the other morning:
