Here’s something I don’t do every day: Climb a ladder up a cell tower, rising from the top of a mountain!

Don’t worry, mom, I only climbed 15 feet or so. The tower wasn’t fenced off. I couldn’t resist!
The climb happened at the summit of Mt. Lukens, a place I’ve wanted to go for quite some time. The top of Mt. Lukens is 5,066 above sea level, and it’s technically (and barely) within the Read the rest of this entry »

I still get excited when a package shows up at my door. And when a big package shows up, I get downright geeked!

This package had 60 pounds of food inside – everything I’d need for four weeks of healthy eating! Read the rest of this entry »

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! My Christmas was muy excellente – I spent the week with my entire family in Mexico. It was a fun-filled, busy, active week… although there was still plenty of hammock time.

We all met up in Cozumel, an island near Cancun. There were 13 of us, and we Read the rest of this entry »

It’s only been a few days since my final race of 2015, and I’m already looking ahead to 2016. I binged the other day and signed up for SEVEN races between January and April. One of them will be in a skyscraper I’ve never raced before. Anyone know what building this is?

I’ll share more details in a second, but first: this will likely be my last post until after Christmas. I leave tomorrow night to spend the holiday with my family, but I’ll be back, between Christmas and New Years, with lots to share. Wishing you all the greatest of holidays – and stay healthy! I’m not actually 2,000 miles away. I’m writing this post in the same room in Los Angeles where I write every other post. But, in my nerd mind, I’m 2,000 miles away! Let me explain.
I track all the miles I complete doing all kinds of cardio, both in the real world and on gym equipment: running, biking, hiking, elliptical, swimming, and so on. I started doing this in the summer of 2013, as a challenge to help me get back in shape after Read the rest of this entry »

I competed in my 15th and final race of 2015! On Saturday, I competed in Hike the Halo, an annual event benefiting the Orange County chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. It’s a fun morning in a fun setting: Angel Stadium.

The race is unique: it’s a combo of running and stair climbing. You Read the rest of this entry »

The good thing about going to Laughlin, Nevada in December is that it’s not outrageously hot. It got into the low ’70s while I was there, whereas the average temperature in July is a scorching 110 degrees. I found plenty of reasons of head outside during my short visit, and one of them was… to meet donkeys!

Look at him, looking at me like I’m the jackass. Read the rest of this entry »

I recently spent a couple days in Laughlin, Nevada, and I have a LOT of pictures to share. So many that I can’t do it in one post! (You can find Part 2 here.)
Laughlin is a little casino resort town in the very southern tip of Nevada, on the Colorado river. Only 8,000 people live there, but thanks to the casinos, it has a nice little skyline.

I took this photo from the other side of the river, in Bullhead City, Arizona, where Read the rest of this entry »

On Thursday, I took an exercise class at Slimmons. Anne led it, and it was excellent, and a bunch of friends were there. I even posted a selfie on Instagram and Facebook:

I like going to Slimmons, even though Richard isn’t there, because Read the rest of this entry »

Look! I’m above the Hollywood Sign!

When I was in Colorado at Thanksgiving, it was full-on winter weather. It snowed the first couple days I was there, and temperatures hovered in the low 20s the whole time. I even Read the rest of this entry »
