Thanksgiving 2014

November 28, 2014

I hope everyone had a wonderful Turkey Day! Mine was spent in Colorado with family, and it was great. And my pledge, that set rules so I could enjoy the day without gratuitous overeating, was a complete success. I actually did more, pledge-wise, than I was planning, because I photographed everything I ate all day, instead of just the big meal. Below are the four rules of the pledge, and how they worked on Thanksgiving Day. Read the rest of this entry »

Roasted Sweet Potato & Pecan Salad. PLUS, a Quickie TV Appearance!

November 25, 2014

I went to Universal Studios Hollywood yesterday, and as I was leaving, they were shooting the entertainment news show “Extra.” I watched the host, Mario Lopez, do about ten minutes of intros and promos, and what did I see when I tuned in later that night? I was on TV!

It was just for a second or two, in the lower left corner, but it was cool nonetheless. I don’t know if Read the rest of this entry »

Take the 2014 KEEP IT UP, DAVID Thanksgiving Pledge!

November 24, 2014

It’s almost Thanksgiving! Holidays can sometimes make me anxious. I know I can eat sickening amounts of food (and I spent years doing exactly that), but I don’t want to do that anymore. On the other hand, holidays are built around food traditions, and I’d like to partake in them.

So I created a simple pledge that gets me through Thanksgiving Day. Read the rest of this entry »

Race Recap: Los Angeles CF Climb 2014

November 19, 2014

Another weekend, another race! On Saturday, I competed in my third stair race of the past two weeks. Whereas the first two were in Chicago (in Willis Tower and 300 North LaSalle), this race was close to home, in the Figueroa at Wilshire building in downtown Los Angeles. It’s 54 stories from sidewalk to roof.

I didn’t feel great going into this race. I typically Read the rest of this entry »

Long-Delayed November Weigh-In

November 15, 2014

My monthly weigh-in was delayed because of my completely awesome trip to Chicago. I weighed myself after I got home (on the 11th), but because of one thing or another, I’m now just getting around to this post. Without further delay, here’s my updated weight loss chart:

Down one pound! Every pound counts. Honestly, though, I wish Read the rest of this entry »

Richard Simmons Is In The News.

November 13, 2014

I haven’t posted an update on Richard Simmons because, in the 5 months since I last wrote about him, there hasn’t been an update. TMZ’s top story today was about Richard’s disappearance, and, as a result, stories about Richard are now everywhere. I don’t have anything to contribute to the conversation except to reiterate that I remain concerned for Richard and wish him happiness and health. He is so loved by so many people. You can read my post about Richard’s disappearance here.

A Final Chicago Post (aka More Salads!)

November 12, 2014

I’m back home after my trip to Chicago, and I have a few final pictures to share. First up… salads! I ended up enjoying a nice streak of delicious entree salads while in Illinois (see photos in this post and this post), and my streak continued Read the rest of this entry »

Spaetzle Party!

November 11, 2014

Ain’t no party like a spaetzle party ’cause a spaetzle party don’t stop!

I was talking about food with my Aunt Mary when I visited her last week, and she mentioned how she had recently bought spaetzle at her local Aldi supermarket. Spaetzle, a type of German egg noodle, is something I’ve eaten at German restaurants a couple times, but I had never seen it in the store. So Mary pulled the package out of her pantry and said “take it! It’s yours.” Read the rest of this entry »

Race Recap: Chicago CF Climb 2014

November 10, 2014

It was only seven days ago that I raced up 103 floors in the Willis Tower. Yesterday, it was time to race again! The Chicago CF Climb (benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation) was held in the 58-story 300 North LaSalle building.

Twenty Hours in Springfield, Illinois

November 6, 2014

If you’re looking for the World’s Largest Covered Wagon, it’s located in the parking lot of the Best Western in Lincoln, Illinois, and (spoiler alert!) it’s not that large.

I saw the underwhelming covered wagon for myself the other day, when I headed south from Chicago for an overnight road trip to Read the rest of this entry »
