I’m back in Los Angeles after two weeks in Michigan. The first week was spent in St. Joseph, but I haven’t shared much about my second week, except for the awesome motivational speaking gig that happened one night. So there’s a lot to catch up on!

Before I get to the onslaught of food photos, I wanted to start with an update about Read the rest of this entry »

Last week, I had the pleasure of giving a motivational talk at Birmingham Next, a nonprofit community center in Birmingham, Michigan, down the street from the high school I graduated from. It was a packed house!

So many stairs!

That’s me on Tuesday, in front of a huge stairway at the Phoenix Center in Pontiac, Michigan. I grew up about 20 minutes away from here, but had never been here before. It’s a pretty neat facility… but most of it is closed to the public. Read the rest of this entry »

My recent flight to Detroit included a two-hour layover in San Francisco. My philosophy about layovers is this: I had just spent time (sometimes hours) on a cramped airplane, and I have more cramped airplane excitement ahead of me, so when I have time to kill in an airport during a layover, I want to stretch my long legs (I’m 6’4″) and move. Say hello to my dragon buddy!

I met him while vacationing in St. Joseph, Michigan. We watched July 4th fireworks from the bluff, spent lots of time at the beach, and had lots of quality family time. I also biked a lot. Over seven hours, split between six different workouts! Read the rest of this entry »

Check this out: Purple string beans!

Oh man, I love oddly-colored vegetables, so when I saw these at the farmer’s market, I was all in. I bought some purple ones, along with regular ol’ green beans and yellow beans, and steamed them for a meal last week.
And then tragedy struck. Read the rest of this entry »
