My office does a fun “Chopped”-inspired cooking challenge, where they provide a list of three secret ingredients, and we use them to make a dish over the weekend. I’ve done it twice before (read the posts here and here)… but this time, I had to stretch the rules a little bit. But I ended up with a delicious late night snack, since that was the category.

Crunchy carrot chips! I’ve been wanting to make these ever since Read the rest of this entry »

Have you heard about the Cosmic Crisp? It’s the latest apple to hit the market, and there’s press everywhere.

I’ve seen stories about the Cosmic Crisp on NBC Nightly News, CBS Sunday Morning, and in USA Today. I’m sure if you searched, you’d find countless more stories – because Read the rest of this entry »

My friend Josh texted me, asking if I was a fan of dipping apples in hummus. He enjoyed it, but his wife and teenager thought it was gross. I had never considered such a combination, and I told him that, and then expressed my excitement in trying it.

And now I’ve tried it. What did I think? Read the rest of this entry »

In my last post, I updated you on the five 5K and 10K races I’ve run since the beginning of the year. All of those races began early in the morning, and all those mornings began with a Bobo’s Oat Bar.

I’ve loved oatmeal all my life. There have been times when I Read the rest of this entry »

I’m always on the hunt for new snack ideas. Fresh vegetables are a tried-and-true mainstay in my snack game, but fresh vegetables aren’t always available, and sometimes they don’t travel well.
There are lots of veggie-based snacks at the store, but many fall into a category that’s a pet peeve of mine, where they’re labeled as Read the rest of this entry »

A little while ago, I shared my easy-peasy recipe for roasted garbanzo beans. This post is another roasted bean recipe… but with different beans. So ignore that sense of deja vu, because this post isn’t a rerun. It’s more like a sequel. Or, to use Hollywood vernacular, it’s a ‘reboot’ or a ‘reimagining.’
The beans I roasted this time were black eyed peas (which are in fact Read the rest of this entry »

Garbanzo beans (also known as chickpeas) are quite healthy. They’re a good source of fiber and protein, and studies have suggested they can help you regulate your blood sugar and curb your appetite. And here’s an easy, fool-proof way to add them to your diet: by roasting them! It couldn’t be easier. Read the rest of this entry »

Here’s an easy, healthy snack for when you’re craving potato chips but don’t want all the carbs: eggplant chips! All you need are Japanese eggplants, and a few things you probably already have in your cupboard.

Potatoes have about 3 times the carbs that eggplants have (17 grams vs. 6 grams, respectively, per 100 grams), so it Read the rest of this entry »

I have some great tips on fun ways to eat hard-boiled eggs, but first, a quick shout-out to my pal Dawn Jackson Blatner, because she inspired this post. I met Dawn at the Fitbloggin’ conference a few months ago, and she had sets of three simple tips and tricks for everything. It was very impressive, and rather brilliant: It’s easy to remember three ideas, and easy to share them, too.
So I devised 3WAYS2, which I’m planning on making a recurring post on this blog. These posts will be devoted to sharing 3 ways that you can make positive changes in regards to your health and weight loss efforts. They may be about Read the rest of this entry »
