I love food shopping. I really do. I love wandering aisles and checking out things I’ve never seen before – especially if those things are in the produce section. I love finding new-to-me varieties of fruits and veggies. I love stocking up on favorites, too, and lately, that’s been radishes. I bring a salad to work most days, for lunch, and just about every salad I’ve made in the past few months has included radish.
Last week, I heard about a farm stand in my new neighborhood, and Read the rest of this entry »

Have you heard about the Cosmic Crisp? It’s the latest apple to hit the market, and there’s press everywhere.
I’ve seen stories about the Cosmic Crisp on NBC Nightly News, CBS Sunday Morning, and in USA Today. I’m sure if you searched, you’d find countless more stories – because Read the rest of this entry »

My friend Mat sent me a really interesting recipe a few weeks ago, for blistered cucumbers, and I just had to try it. It caught my attention because cucumbers are one of the vegetables that you rarely, if ever, see cooked. And this recipe involves cooking them in a really interesting way. Count me in! I love radishes. Sometimes you can find them bagged, and without greens, but most of the time they’re piled up at the store, leaves and all. And most of the time I bring them home, chop off the greens, and throw the greens out. But not this time!
Radish greens are edible. I’ve known that Read the rest of this entry »

I love trying new varieties of fruits and vegetables. So I was very excited to see a basket of green vegetables at the store labeled “Shanghai.”
They look like little baby bok choys, but who knows? Maybe they’re something completely different! Only one way to find out… bring some home and eat them! Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve been using (and eating!) riced vegetables a lot lately. They’re just so easy and convenient. They cook quickly, can be added to so many dishes, and best of all, good for you! (For more riced vegetable ideas, click here, here, and here.) So, here’s another recipe involving riced vegetables. This time, I used riced broccoli as the basis for a delicious salad.
That’s a 15-ounce bag of riced broccoli from Read the rest of this entry »

What am I eating?
Yes, it’s a cucumber, and yes, I’m eating it whole, like an apple. Gotta eat smart while on the road!
I went on my longest road trip in over a decade last week, to go to Read the rest of this entry »

Time for a blast from the past. I haven’t shown a produce haul on this blog since 2013! And there’s not many photos I love taking more than ones displaying a tabletop full of fresh, delicious, healthy things to eat.
Pictures of the fruits and veggies that I bought were once Read the rest of this entry »

Earlier this week I rebooted “What’s In The Crockpot?” – a blog post that I used to do regularly. Guess what? Time for another reboot!
I have a whole archive of posts called “The Produce Aisle”, and each one is about a new-to-me fruit or veggie, that I brought home, researched, and cooked. It’s a way to expand my horizons and try new things, while still eating healthily, and there ain’t nothin’ wrong with that!
My produce experiment this time around is… Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve been in a radish kind of mood lately. Radishes are delightful: crunchy and spicy and downright delicious.
And guess what? They’re good for you! Radishes are a good source of fiber, vitamins C and B6, folate, manganese, and potassium. And since a cup of sliced radishes only has 19 calories, go nuts!
Here’s a fun fact I just learned: Read the rest of this entry »
