Shocking Confession Time: Before this weekend, I hadn’t been to the farmers market in a couple years. There was a time, about 5-6 years ago, when I was going every weekend, but my habits changed. This weekend, I was reminded how much I love it. Check out this haul!

I went with Sarah and Allison, the day after Read the rest of this entry »

My sister Sarah and niece Allison are visiting from Colorado this weekend, and we had a long, full day. We ate out twice, and I made smart choices each time. Since I photographed those meals, why not share them, and some other photos, too?!

We started it with a nice walk with Maude to the coffee shop and back – about 1.5 miles total. I split my breakfast up: before the walk, I made a Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve loved grocery shopping since I was a kid, when I would get my calculator and play supermarket cashier in my kitchen. Apparently when I was a toddler, I would tell people I wanted to be a mommy when I grew up, because mommies got to do the grocery shopping (in my family, at least).
I still get a kick out of grocery shopping, because it involves all sorts of fun things: Read the rest of this entry »

There’s nothing quite like an alarm clock going off at 4:45am, huh? That’s when I had to wake up on Saturday so I could get to Malibu Creek State Park. I was competing in my first trail race, and I was nervous. Good thing the park was in the mountains, with plenty of pretty scenery to distract me.

So there’s a wee bit of backstory here: My friend Jeff (a frequent figure on this blog, often featured in posts about Read the rest of this entry »

Well, I’ve enjoyed some much needed time off from intensive exercise, and realized today that in one month’s time, I will have three more races under my belt! Good thing I started ramping up my workouts!

That photo is from my first run in months, which I did the other night. It was in preparation for the first of the three races, a Read the rest of this entry »

My plan, after my disastrous race in the Aon Center last month, was to take a breather from intensive exercise. I was due. That race was my seventh stair race in 2016 (so far). Tack on the four races I did in the fall of 2015, and I’ve had at least one major race every month for the past eight months. That’s a lot of racing… and a lot of training. I was feeling overtrained and exhausted, and the Aon Center race triggered some depression that hung around a little longer than I would have liked (although any depression is more than I would’ve liked, so that’s not saying much).
A few weeks ago, I looked at my calendar, and decided Read the rest of this entry »

How’s this for a blast from the past? It’s the return of a Keep It Up, David staple. It’s actually a game, and a pretty simple one at that. You guess what’s in the crockpot, and then keep reading to see if you’re right. Now that the rules have been explained, keep your arms and hands inside the train at all times, and have at it!
WHAT’S IN THE CROCKPOT?

What a fantastic weekend! My high school friend Emily got married to a great guy named Rich, and that was an excellent reason to head to Phoenix for a few days. Here I am with the bride, and our high school friend Heather:

That’s Heather’s husband Adam photobombing us in the back! You may remember Emily from this post, which has a photo of her in one of her jaw-dropping ballroom dancing costumes, but she was also Read the rest of this entry »
