How’s this for a triumphant post-race photo?
Me, on the roof of the tallest building in Ventura County, with nothing but blue sky in every direction. The truth is, though, that I wasn’t feeling triumphant at all. I had just competed in an extremely difficult race, and instead of feeling like I had conquered the stairwell, I felt like the stairs had conquered me. Read the rest of this entry »

I had a nice six-week hiatus from racing, but on Saturday I pinned a bib to my chest and a timing chip to my shoe, and participated in Tower 2 Tower, a fun and different stair race in Oxnard, California. This race is special because it’s the only race I’ve done that involves stairwells in two separate buildings. The race begins with a climb up the 14-story City National Bank Building…

I’m so excited to be on a break from racing. I’m not doing any races in May, and I’m going to enjoy that. I’ll still be exercising, but with a little more freedom, as there are no looming stair races in the near future.
I’ve earned this reprieve. I competed in seven races during a nine-weekend span, so, yeah, I’m pooped! (Six of them were stair races, and the seventh was Read the rest of this entry »

I competed in my 8th stair race of 2016 on Saturday (and my 35th overall!), and it was a unique experience for me. There were TWO buildings! The race was called Tower 2 Tower, and the start line was at the base of the City National Bank building in Oxnard, California.
First we raced up 14 stories in this building. Then we ran to a different stairwell, and ran down. Then, we ran about a quarter of a mile across a parking lot, through an obstacle course. Once we got through the obstacles, it was Read the rest of this entry »

Well, I’ve enjoyed some much needed time off from intensive exercise, and realized today that in one month’s time, I will have three more races under my belt! Good thing I started ramping up my workouts!
That photo is from my first run in months, which I did the other night. It was in preparation for the first of the three races, a Read the rest of this entry »

On Saturday, hundreds of people competed in the Tower 2 Tower stair race in Oxnard, California. I’ve been planning on being there for months now, but I did not race that day. And that makes this recap the worst recap ever.
Long story short: I injured myself a few days prior.
Long story long: On Wednesday, I decided to Read the rest of this entry »

My recent race in the Aon Center in Los Angeles was my sixth stair race of 2015. I haven’t mentioned any other races, but it turns out… I’ve been keeping a few secrets. I’ve actually signed up for three more stair races. One of them is the inaugural race at an iconic skyscraper that opened last fall to international fanfare, after years of anticipation.
Need another hint? It’s one of the buildings in this photo:
YEP! On Sunday, May 17th, I’m going to race up the stairs of ONE WORLD TRADE CENTER in New York City!
