I was going through my receipts and came across the best restaurant receipt I’ve ever seen. I ate lunch in the Denver International Airport two months ago, during a layover while en route to Minneapolis for an hour-long stair race extravaganza. I walked past McDonalds, Chick-Fil-A, and Cinnabon and found the healthiest option in the terminal – a place called Modern Market. Check out their receipt! Read the rest of this entry »

April 27, 2017Competing in the San Francisco Fight For Air Climb was certainly a highlight of last weekend, but the weekend had lots of fun stuff – and the stairs at 101 California weren’t even the only stairs I climbed!
Check out the view from these public stairs! Gorgeous. These are the Read the rest of this entry »
A Totally New Stair Race Experience (2017 San Francisco Fight For Air Climb Race Recap)
April 26, 2017I’m back from San Francisco, where, for the third year in a row, I competed in the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb. While three-peating here might make me a veteran, this year’s race was new, thanks to a change in venue. This race was held, for the first time, in 101 California, a glass skyscraper that reaches 48 stories into the sky.
101 California isn’t a landmark or a record-holder – it’s currently tied as the city’s 8th-tallest building. In fact, it’s best known as the site of a horrific tragedy Read the rest of this entry »
Asparagus, Mushrooms, and Pasta With Creamy Mustard Sauce
April 20, 2017Here’s the key to a healthy pasta dish: Don’t focus on the pasta.
Make the star ingredients veggies or protein, and toss in a little pasta along the way, as opposed to the other way around. For this dish, my star ingredients are two vegetables, and you’ll be shocked at how little pasta is actually used. Read the rest of this entry »
Asparagus and Sugar Snap Salad with Molasses Vinaigrette
April 18, 2017A few weeks ago, I shared my recipe for Cauliflower, Tomato and Avocado Salad – which I really enjoy, because it’s a delicious non-lettuce-based salad, and sometimes I get bored with lettuce. And here’s another non-lettuce-based salad recipe, that’s equally as delicious: Asparagus and Sugar Snap Salad with Molasses Vinaigrette!
You start by steaming the Read the rest of this entry »
Reader Question: Help! I’m Self-Conscious at the Gym
April 17, 2017I hope everyone had a better holiday weekend that I did. I’ve been fighting a nasty cold, and I hope, by the time you read this, the worst will be behind me. I’ve thought that once already, on Friday, when I was feeling pretty good. But then I woke up on Saturday a sneezy, snotty mess. Now, as I type this, I’m feeling like I did on Friday… and keeping my fingers crossed that I won’t regress again.
Meanwhile, a reader recently reached out to me looking for some advice, and I wanted to share how I replied: Read the rest of this entry »
I Saw a T.J. Maxx Commercial, and It Inspired a 2.5 Hour Workout!
April 13, 2017I love stairs so much… sometimes they make me dance!
That’s not just any dance, though. I’m recreating some moves seen on a brand new T.J. Maxx commercial, which features a model dancing on the very same step where I’m standing: Read the rest of this entry »
I Bought a New Infomercial Product… and Put It Through Its Paces
April 12, 2017I love kitchen and food-related infomercials, and my kitchen cabinets have their share of infomercial products. From Richard Simmons Steam Heat to the RediSetGo, I’ve been tempted many times but television products that promise to make my life so much easier. And I was recently tempted again. My Race on Saturday Was a BIG Success… But It Marks an Absolutely ENORMOUS Milestone! (2017 Los Angeles Fight For Air Race Recap)
April 11, 2017The 10th annual Los Angeles Fight For Air Climb was on Saturday, and I was ready to go. I even had my personal mantra written on my arm.
The ‘PR’ stands for personal record, and the ‘ER’ stands for emergency room. And since I had no intention of going to the ER, my only choice was to accomplish the personal record. And how would I do that? By climbing the third-tallest building in Los Angeles faster than I’ve ever climbed it before.
