Last Friday was a big day. It was the final day that I could climb the stairs in the 41-story Ernst & Young Building in downtown Los Angeles. I was so sore and exhausted from a good week of workouts that I could only manage two climbs (more on that later), but it felt great. Except for when I laid down after the workout, and it hurt to get up.

Last weekend wiped me out. Literally. It made me ill. I spent Monday and half of Tuesday barfing, thanks to an upset stomach. (I’m feeling much better now, thanks for asking!) But you know what? It was worth it! It began on Saturday, when I participated in the 36th Annual Pride Run.

I had a nice six-week hiatus from racing, but on Saturday I pinned a bib to my chest and a timing chip to my shoe, and participated in Tower 2 Tower, a fun and different stair race in Oxnard, California. This race is special because it’s the only race I’ve done that involves stairwells in two separate buildings. The race begins with a climb up the 14-story City National Bank Building…

Workout shorts are workout shorts, right? Wrong. I recently received two pairs of HYLETE shorts, and they quickly became my favorite. These are the Verge II shorts, which I wore for the first time during a stair workout (3 climbs up a 46-story stairwell!):
