I’ve been keeping and updating my weight loss chart since 2010. And during that entire time, I had to taped to my wall, using painter’s tape. Up until a few weeks ago, that is. I finally got a bulletin board for my weight loss chart!
When I lived in California, I never saw the need. Taping it to the wall worked just fine. But Read the rest of this entry »

In 2020, I set a goal to walk one long trail from end to end. I broke it into chunks, and did a different portion every weekend, ultimately completing it in August, walking 102.6 miles in the process. Now I’m back at it!
JJ and I went for our first hike of 2021, and it was the first leg of my 2021 hiking goal: to Read the rest of this entry »

I’m chugging along, folks. At the beginning of the month, I was down four pounds, but then the other day, I was up five. Losing weight isn’t easy, but I’m not giving up!
That’s a post-workout selfie from this morning. I’ve had a very healthy weekend. I took that picture at my gym after using the Read the rest of this entry »

Woohoo! I’m back on the stairs!

It’s been, oh, seven months since I’ve had a good workout on the stairs. I’ve missed it. When the pandemic first started flaring up, all my upcoming stair races got cancelled. All the gyms in my state were forced to Read the rest of this entry »

Here’s the face of a happy camper, standing in a park in Richmond, Michigan:

How did I end up in Richmond? I walked there! It as the end of a months-long pandemic challenge – a quest to hike the entire length of a trail that spans two counties. And I made it! Read the rest of this entry »

Hello, everyone! Greetings from my new home!

I moved in a few weeks ago, and between preparing for the move, and all the stuff that’s come after, it seems like I’ve been busy forever. Earlier today, my father and I removed the bathroom mirror in the above photo from the wall and rehung it ten inches higher, because that bathroom was not designed for Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve got a story about a bridge to share. The bridge isn’t as impressive as the huge suspension bridge I raced over, or even the bridge I set out to find in Omaha, but a bridge is a bridge. For an infrastructure nerd like me, every bridge is worth a visit.

Before I get into that, though, I wanted to share a few words about my friend Richard Simmons. He’s Read the rest of this entry »

I took a lot of photos during my long weekend in the Upper Peninsula to go to the Red Bull 400. I wanted to remember this trip. Despite growing up in Michigan, I’ve barely spent any time there before!

Did I take too many photos? You be the judge. Read the rest of this entry »

Check out this view!

Now check out this feat: I’m at the top of the Manitou Incline, a 2,768-step stairway that goes straight up the side of a mountain in Colorado. It’s the longest flight of stairs I’ve ever climbed – and it’s something I’ve wanted to do for years. Read the rest of this entry »
