Using Every Method Possible to Get to the Top! (Stair Climb for Los Angeles 2018 Race Recap)

September 30, 2018

I didn’t think I was ready for a stair race. Not yet. It was only a few weeks ago that I was cleared to exercise again after recovering from my LASIK surgery, and getting back into shape has been challenging. And yet, on Friday, I pinned a bib to my shirt and looked up at the skyscraper housing the tallest stairwell west of the Mississippi. Gulp!

This was my sixth year racing at the Stair Climb for Los Angeles, a fundraiser benefiting the Downtown-Ketchum YMCA, so I knew what to expect: Read the rest of this entry »

My Fifth Race Up the Tallest Stairwell in the West! (Stair Climb for Los Angeles Race Recap)

September 26, 2017

Last weekend was the Stair Climb for Los Angeles, the Downtown-Ketchum YMCA’s annual race up the stairwell in the 75-story US Bank Tower, from the sidewalk to the tallest roof in Los Angeles!

This was my fifth consecutive year competing, and while I was excited to attempt a new personal best, I didn’t have Read the rest of this entry »

A Thrilling, Unexpected Surprise in the Tallest Stairwell West of the Mississippi! (2016 Stair Climb for Los Angeles Race Recap)

October 5, 2016

I’ve got a LOT to blog about. I traveled this past weekend, and had a great trip, but my weekend began in Los Angeles with a race on Friday up the tallest stairwell west of the Mississippi. Introducing (for the fourth year in a row) the… US Bank Tower in downtown Los Angeles!

My Race Registration Blitz… May I Have Some Money, Pretty Please With Sugar on Top?

September 5, 2016

Hope everyone had a fun long weekend. I spent most of it stuck on the couch, thanks to my bum foot. I binge-watched every episode of “Stranger Things” (loved it), but I was also productive: I registered for some autumn stair races!

I Raced Up a 75-Story Building. What Did YOU Do Over the Weekend? (2015 Stair Climb for Los Angeles Race Recap)

September 29, 2015

First off: this headline is not an arrogant, holier-than-thou brag. Yes, I raced. Yes, I’m proud. But not for the reasons you think, because it was actually a really crummy day. This headline is meant to inspire reflection on your own accomplishments, big and small, because they all matter. More on all this to come… Let’s just get right into my own crummy day, shall we?

This building was the setting (that’s me at the bottom!)

Four Months. Four Races. I’m Racing Up Lots of Stairs This Fall!

September 15, 2015

I went on a spree over the weekend and registered for stair races that will keep me busy between now and December. The first one is less than two weeks away! And it’s in this behemoth:

Support My Climb… It’s Two Weeks Away!

September 12, 2013

I’ve been going gangbusters on the StairMaster during the past week and a half. The StairMaster has been part of 5 of my workouts, sometimes as my warm-up, sometimes as more. If you combine those 5 efforts, I’ve gone for 85 minutes and climbed 368 floors. Not too shabby!

There’s a reason I’ve been focusing on the StairMaster, and I was reminded of that reason the other day, when I came face to face with it downtown:
