Turkey Day is One Week Away! Take My Four-Step THANKSGIVING PLEDGE and Commit to Sensible Eating During The Year’s Biggest Food Holiday

November 15, 2018

One week to Thanksgiving! This is my 9th year taking my Thanksgiving Pledge, which allows me to enjoy whatever I want on Thanksgiving, without feeling terrible the next day or completely abandoning my healthy living efforts. I encourage you to take the pledge, too!

Thanksgiving is practically synonymous with overeating, but it doesn’t have to be. I work way too hard on my weight loss maintenance (160 pounds lost and kept off since 2010) to abandon it all in a turkey and gravy free-for-all.

So I created my Thanksgiving Pledge. It’s my way to get through Thanksgiving, enjoy everything I want, not feel guilty, and not open the floodgates for a month-long binge of poor choices.  Read the rest of this entry »

Take the Keep It Up, David THANKSGIVING PLEDGE! It’s Your Ticket to a Guilt-Free Turkey Day

November 14, 2017

Thanksgiving is NEXT WEEK! I’m ready for it. This will be my 8th consecutive year taking my Thanksgiving Pledge, which gives you the freedom to enjoy whatever you want on Thanksgiving, without feeling like you’ve completely abandoned your health or weight loss program.

It’s so easy to overeat on Thanksgiving, and for many people, it kickstarts an entire month (or more) of senseless, uninhibited consumption. But I work way too hard on my weight loss maintenance (160 pounds lost and kept off for nearly eight years) to see it go out the window.

So, back in 2010, I created my Thanksgiving Pledge. It’s my way to Read the rest of this entry »

Thanksgiving 2016 Rewind

November 28, 2016

I’m back home from Colorado and had a great Thanksgiving with my family. And since I take my annual Thanksgiving Pledge seriously, I wanted to share how I did. Overall, I stuck to the four rules pretty well!

The day started with a 5K Turkey Trot. This was my fourth time running it, and my sister’s third, but this year my sister’s husband and kids joined in the fun too!

I’m Thankful For My Insanity (Thanksgiving 2015)

November 27, 2015

A couple weeks ago, I shared my Thanksgiving pledge – 4 simple rules that I follow as a way to get through this food-based holiday without gorging myself. I’m happy to share: they worked!

One of the rules was to exercise on Thanksgiving. So I did the Louisville Turkey Trot in Colorado (where I was spending turkey day at my sister’s place). It’s a 5k run. I’ve done 5k runs before – including the Louisville Turkey Trot twice before – but NEVER in 23 degree weather, while it was snowing!

Thanksgiving 2013: A Success!

November 29, 2013

Thanksgiving 2013 is over. It was a great day: lots of laughs, good times with family, and a 5-hour game of Risk, during which I managed to lose twice (I lost, then I took over my sister’s armies, and lost again). And, of course, there was a delicious, fantastic meal.

The day started early. My brother-in-law Justin always takes the lead on dinner, but we all help out. I chopped a ton of veggies, peeled a ton of potatoes, and steamed some broccoli for a side dish.

And, drum roll please…. I kept my pledge to not overeat! Read the rest of this entry »
