March 8, 2018

AHHHH! In just one week I’m going to be racing up the stairs in the most famous landmark on the planet! It’s so tremendously exciting, but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been petrified, too. Fear and self-doubt have been hangin’ around lately, unfortunately.

I’m going to get into all of that, but first, I wanted to share some practical information on how you can watch the race LIVE! Read the rest of this entry »

Holy Crap, I’M GOING TO PARIS! I’m One of Three Americans That Were Selected to Race Up the Eiffel Tower Stairs This Year

January 23, 2018

Bonjour, je m’appelle David, et je vais en France!

I’m so honored and excited to share some extraordinary news: I’m competing in my first international stair race, and it’s in one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world, the Eiffel Tower!

I’ve been sitting on this news for almost two weeks. I shared it on social media, but held off of posting it here until the race organizers published it on their website. And that finally happened today!

La Verticale de la tour Eiffel is one of the Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve Been Secretly Training in a Downtown Skyscraper… and I Can Finally Talk About All of It. (Well, Most of It.)

June 26, 2017

Last Friday was a big day. It was the final day that I could climb the stairs in the 41-story Ernst & Young Building in downtown Los Angeles. I was so sore and exhausted from a good week of workouts that I could only manage two climbs (more on that later), but it felt great. Except for when I laid down after the workout, and it hurt to get up.

I’ve been attending these workouts Read the rest of this entry »

I Love a Good Action Shot!

May 23, 2017

There are professional photographers at many of the stair races I do. And I got my hands on the pictures from my most recent race, in San Francisco!

There are often photographers at the starting line or finish line, but my favorite is when they’re Read the rest of this entry »

April 11, 2017

The 10th annual Los Angeles Fight For Air Climb was on Saturday, and I was ready to go. I even had my personal mantra written on my arm.

The ‘PR’ stands for personal record, and the ‘ER’ stands for emergency room. And since I had no intention of going to the ER, my only choice was to accomplish the personal record. And how would I do that? By climbing the third-tallest building in Los Angeles faster than I’ve ever climbed it before.

A Big Time Announcement: My Next Four Stair Races!

February 6, 2017

Stair race season is in full swing. I’ll probably compete in eight events between now and this summer. A few of those are up in the air at the moment, but I can definitely announce my first four races of 2017, and I’m pumped!

I love competing in new venues. I only added one new building to my list during the winter and spring months last year (Republic Plaza in Denver). This year, though, I’m doing as many new races as I can. In fact, every single one of the four races below is a new-to-me building or a new-to-me city… or both!

An Impressive Return to the Stairwell AND My All-Time Highest National Ranking!

August 11, 2016

It’s been nearly two months since I’ve raced or trained in a stairwell. After the TOWERthon in June, I was ready for a break. That was my 9th stair race in six months! Now, though, I have to start getting ready for my fall stair races. And that meant… time to get back in the stairwell!

I didn’t waste any time. I returned to Los Angeles on Saturday, and my stair training began Read the rest of this entry »
