Competing in the San Francisco Fight For Air Climb was certainly a highlight of last weekend, but the weekend had lots of fun stuff – and the stairs at 101 California weren’t even the only stairs I climbed!
Check out the view from these public stairs! Gorgeous. These are the Read the rest of this entry »

I’m back from San Francisco, where, for the third year in a row, I competed in the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb. While three-peating here might make me a veteran, this year’s race was new, thanks to a change in venue. This race was held, for the first time, in 101 California, a glass skyscraper that reaches 48 stories into the sky.
101 California isn’t a landmark or a record-holder – it’s currently tied as the city’s 8th-tallest building. In fact, it’s best known as the site of a horrific tragedy Read the rest of this entry »

The moment before I start a stair race, I’m calm, focused, and ready to go hard. Look – a professional photographer captured that moment!
Most of these races have an official photographer on hand, and a week or so afterward, you can Read the rest of this entry »

I competed in my fifth stair race of 2016 on Saturday, and it felt really great to return to 555 California in the heart of San Francisco.
I did this race for the first time last year, and it was tough. I was getting over an rough illness, so I wasn’t in peak physical shape. It’s also a hard stairwell – it’s pretty steep, and because of mezzanines and a tall lobby, it’s more than the 52 stories they advertise. All in all, it was Read the rest of this entry »

It’s only been a few days since my final race of 2015, and I’m already looking ahead to 2016. I binged the other day and signed up for SEVEN races between January and April. One of them will be in a skyscraper I’ve never raced before. Anyone know what building this is?
I’ll share more details in a second, but first: this will likely be my last post until after Christmas. I leave tomorrow night to spend the holiday with my family, but I’ll be back, between Christmas and New Years, with lots to share. Wishing you all the greatest of holidays – and stay healthy! Two Race Recaps, back to back? Yup, that’s what can happen when you compete in four races in one month, which is what I just did. First, stair climbs in Detroit and Phoenix, then the Warrior Dash last weekend, and now the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb in San Francisco.
These races are often in landmark buildings, but this day had a bonus landmark. We drove over the Golden Gate Bridge to get into the city!
I saw “we” because I had a cheering section for this race: my Read the rest of this entry »
