The First Half of an Brutal, Exhausting and Undeniably Awesome Weekend (Seattle Fight For Air 2016 Race Recap)

January 26, 2016

WHAT. A. WEEKEND. You wouldn’t guess it from the pain and misery on my face in this first photo, but this weekend delivered outrageous amounts of happiness. I wouldn’t be surprised if my blood was currently comprised of red and white blood cells, plasma, platelets, and PRIDE.

It’s My Anniversary… And I Know Exactly What You Can Get Me

January 15, 2016

Six years ago this month, I weighed 402 pounds.

Six years ago this month, Richard Simmons reached out to me, after meeting me in person only a couple hours before, and offered to help me lose weight.

Six years ago this month, and after 2 or 3 weeks of hemming and hawing, I took Richard up on his offer.

It’s been six long years that I’ve been working hard to get my health under control, and the end result still astounds me: I’ve lost 160 pounds and kept it off!

I’m Already Really Flippin’ Excited For My Winter 2016 Stair Race Tour!

December 17, 2015

It’s only been a few days since my final race of 2015, and I’m already looking ahead to 2016. I binged the other day and signed up for SEVEN races between January and April. One of them will be in a skyscraper I’ve never raced before. Anyone know what building this is?

I’ll share more details in a second, but first: this will likely be my last post until after Christmas. I leave tomorrow night to spend the holiday with my family, but I’ll be back, between Christmas and New Years, with lots to share. Wishing you all the greatest of holidays – and stay healthy! 2 Days, 8 Climbs, 320 Floors (Seattle and Portland ALA Fight For Air Race Recaps)

January 27, 2015

rainier-tower-seattleWHAT A WEEKEND. On Saturday and Sunday, I competed in back-to-back stair races for the first time. Just the thought of waking up and doing a grueling stair race, after doing an equally grueling stair race the day before, made me anxious. But it happened. And while I’m glad it’s over, I’m so glad I did it.

The first race was in Seattle, and it was held in one of the most interesting buildings I’ve ever seen. It’s called the Rainier Tower (on the left), and the base is a narrow 11-story pedestal. The building looks like it’s defying the laws of physics. It’s very cool. I’m in love.

My favorite vantage point is just outside the front doors. You look up to see Read the rest of this entry »

January 13, 2015

After looking back on 2014, it’s time to look ahead. I’m also gonna look up, because there are LOTS of stairs in my future!
