The title doesn’t refer to some hot, trendy new workout. It refers to an actual volcano – a real-life mountain forged from magma that oozed through the earth’s crust, violently altering the landscape of our planet.

I wasn’t in any danger, though. This particular volcano has been extinct for 300,000 years. But it’s a volcano nonetheless. And I worked out there. ON A VOLCANO! I was geeking out. I still am! Read the rest of this entry »

Climbing the 52-story 555 California building twice might seem like enough stairs for one weekend, but NOPE! It wasn’t. So, the day after the race, I went with my brother Steven and my sister-in-law Alexis to the Dipsea Stairs, a public stairway in Mill Valley, California. These were some long flights of stairs!

The Dipsea Stairs are well-known because Read the rest of this entry »

Plan B was training on a new-to-me public stairway in the Hollywood Hills… one that just happens to be down the street from a major celebrity’s home! Here are the stairs:

And that’s just the first third of them. Here’s the rest: Read the rest of this entry »

I can’t remember the last time I was up early enough to see a sunrise. Yesterday, though, I saw a beautiful one… while in the middle of a fantastic stair workout. Here’s the sunrise…

…and here are the stairs:
.

These awesome stairs are known as the Culver City Stairs, and they’re at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. How I ended up there was a happy accident.
