We got 8 or 10 inches of snow earlier this week. JJ has been having a great time frolicking in the snow on his walks. I got an hour of exercise the other night when I shoveled out the driveway. But these pictures are from before the snowstorm, which explains the lack of snow. They’re from my trip last weekend to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and they feature some incredible public stairs!
The title doesn’t refer to some hot, trendy new workout. It refers to an actual volcano – a real-life mountain forged from magma that oozed through the earth’s crust, violently altering the landscape of our planet.
I wasn’t in any danger, though. This particular volcano has been extinct for 300,000 years. But it’s a volcano nonetheless. And I worked out there. ON A VOLCANO! I was geeking out. I still am! Read the rest of this entry »
Climbing the 52-story 555 California building twice might seem like enough stairs for one weekend, but NOPE! It wasn’t. The most seasonally festive thing I did this weekend was go to…

Plan A was to head downtown to train in a skyscraper, but I ended up working late, so that didn’t happen. Plan B was training on a new-to-me public stairway in the Hollywood Hills… one that just happens to be down the street from a major celebrity’s home! Here are the stairs:
And that’s just the first third of them. Here’s the rest: Read the rest of this entry »
I can’t remember the last time I was up early enough to see a sunrise. Yesterday, though, I saw a beautiful one… while in the middle of a fantastic stair workout. Here’s the sunrise…
…and here are the stairs:
These awesome stairs are known as the Culver City Stairs, and they’re at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. How I ended up there was a happy accident.
