Hamilton, Ontario Has AWESOME Public Stairways!

November 14, 2019

We got 8 or 10 inches of snow earlier this week. JJ has been having a great time frolicking in the snow on his walks. I got an hour of exercise the other night when I shoveled out the driveway. But these pictures are from before the snowstorm, which explains the lack of snow. They’re from my trip last weekend to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and they feature some incredible public stairs!

I went to Hamilton to compete in the Steeltown Stair Climb, and while at the race, I Read the rest of this entry »

My First VOLCANO Workout!

February 15, 2018

The title doesn’t refer to some hot, trendy new workout. It refers to an actual volcano – a real-life mountain forged from magma that oozed through the earth’s crust, violently altering the landscape of our planet.

I wasn’t in any danger, though. This particular volcano has been extinct for 300,000 years. But it’s a volcano nonetheless. And I worked out there. ON A VOLCANO! I was geeking out. I still am! Read the rest of this entry »

A Visit to the Famous Dipsea Stairs

March 24, 2016

Climbing the 52-story 555 California building twice might seem like enough stairs for one weekend, but NOPE! It wasn’t. So, the day after the race, I went with my brother Steven and my sister-in-law Alexis to the Dipsea Stairs, a public stairway in Mill Valley, California. These were some long flights of stairs!

My Halloween Weekend… In Pictures

November 2, 2015

I’ve got lots of photos, so I’ll try to keep my words brief. (Good luck to me – brevity isn’t my strong suit!) First, the biggest headline: I didn’t dress up for Halloween. I actually haven’t dressed up since 2011, when I went to a party as Jared Fogel (the Subway guy). Now, just thinking of him makes me shiver in repulsion and disgust, so… man oh man, do I know how to pick a costume!

The most seasonally festive thing I did this weekend was go to…

a CORN MAZE! You all know how much I love mazes – I even sell my hand-drawn themed mazes on Etsy – so navigating my way through Read the rest of this entry »

I Don’t Stalk Celebrities (But This Post Will Make You Think I Do)

October 1, 2014

After about a week-and-a-half away from the stairs, it was time to resume training. I have two races in Chicago coming up in about a month, and I want to be ready! Plan A was to head downtown to train in a skyscraper, but I ended up working late, so that didn’t happen. Plan B was training on a new-to-me public stairway in the Hollywood Hills… one that just happens to be down the street from a major celebrity’s home! Here are the stairs:

Stairs at Sunrise

February 17, 2014

I can’t remember the last time I was up early enough to see a sunrise. Yesterday, though, I saw a beautiful one… while in the middle of a fantastic stair workout. Here’s the sunrise…

These awesome stairs are known as the Culver City Stairs, and they’re at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. How I ended up there was a happy accident.
