Glasses Poll Results!

August 19, 2011

Yesterday was a lot of fun for me.  Yesterday’s post was all about shopping for new glasses, and I included a poll, asking which pair of eyeglass frames you liked best on me, and lots of you responded.  As of right now, as I type this, 148 of you voted.  WOW!  I had significantly more page views than that, though, and that makes me wonder about the readers who read the post and chose not to vote at all.  What gives?  You just don’t like polls, is that it?

I’m kidding, of course.  I’m just glad to have readers at all, and what you do or don’t do when you’re visiting my website is none of my business.  As long as you come back each and every day, and tell all your family and friends about me, and share links on all the social media sites that you frequent.

I’m kidding again.  Or am I?

The other exciting thing that happened yesterday was that I got a call from Teddy at Gogosha Optique saying that my new glasses were ready.  WOO-HOO!  This came as quite a surprise, as I was told at the store that it may take as long as a week to get them back from the lab.  I couldn’t make it over to that part of town after I got the call yesterday, so I’m going a little later today.  I said yesterday that I wasn’t going to reveal what pair I actually bought until I had them in my hot little hands, but I changed my mind.  I’ll reveal it right now!

First, though, let’s take a look at how you voted:

You resoundingly went with Finalist #4 – with almost a majority!  They’re definitely snazzy glasses, that’s for sure, but they’re…. NOT the pair I ended up buying.  I ultimately decided that they were too similar in shape to my current glasses, and while the glitter lining offered a nice hidden surprise, I really wanted to switch it up a little bit more.

The pair of glasses I ended up buying was…

…drum roll please…

…FINALIST #3: Retro, with fun details!

I’m glad these frames came in second place in the poll.  I suspected that the glitter frames might win, as they’re so terribly unique (and they were also the only option where I provided a secondary photo), but a lot of you liked these frames a lot, and I freakin’ love them.  I love that they’re both black and silver, I love the they have retro styling but also have very modern elements, and I love that their stems have a fun curve to them as well, which you can’t see in the photographs.

Most of all, I love that I’m gonna be picking them up in a matter of hours!

Thanks to everyone that voted, and to all of you that left comments explaining your vote – I loved reading everyone’s opinions, and I loved how thoroughly you thought about this!

In other news, I went to Richard Simmons’ class at Slimmons last night, and he was wearing black vinyl and strings of pearls.  He hasn’t posted the video from last night’s class yet, but here’s the video from last Saturday, when Richard played all new music and was dressed entirely in multi-colored fringe.  Keep an eye out for me, too!

Attending this class means that I’ve worked out 7 of the past 8 days!

Keep it up, David!

ELLEN Clothing Poll Results!

January 9, 2011

About 24 hours ago, I posted photos of four possible outfits I could wear when I go on THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW this week.  It airs Tuesday.  You should watch it!  I’m going to be a guest, alongside Richard Simmons, talkin’ about my weight loss journey and success.  Don’t know when the show airs in your part of the country?  Go to and find out!

Anyway – I posted photos of the potential outfits, and asked all of you to vote on which outfit you liked most.  I got tons more votes than I was anticipating!  Between the two polls (one for shirts and one for pants), I got 158 votes!  And, many of you elaborated in the comments section and on Twitter, and I thank all of you for taking the time to help me out.

Pardon me for employing some Seacrest-style stalling here, but before I get to the poll results, I want to invite you to take a minute to look around – I added some new features to the blog!  There’s now more buttons along the top:  The “Watch Me on Ellen” button, which will soon feature a video of my appearance on THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW, the “Photo Gallery” button, which features a bunch of Before and Current photo comparisons, and the “My Favorite Posts” button, which takes you to a list of (surprise!) my favorite posts – and is a great way for new readers to get acquainted quickly with me and what the blog is all about!  A big thank you to Mike Chiaburu and Kristy Hanson for helping me put together these new additions.  You can follow both of them on Twitter – Mike is @mikerelay, and Kristy is @kristyhanson.  And while you’re on Twitter, are you following me yet?  I’m @keepitupdavid (duh).

Okay, back to the poll results.   For both shirt and pants, there was a clear-cut most popular choice – they weren’t close races in any way, shape or form.

Ready to see what you think I should wear on THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW?  Here it is!

Here’s how the voting broke down:

  • Shirt #1 (Blue/Brown Plaid)     10%
  • Shirt #2 (Red Plaid):     24%
  • Shirt #3 (Light Blue):     19%
  • Shirt #4 (Brown):     47%

  • Pants #1 (Dark Jeans):     63%
  • Pants #2 (Distressed Jeans):      21%
  • Pants #3 (Khaki Jeans):     16%

See?  Not even close.

I have to say that the results for the shirt surprised me a little.  The brown shirt was the one was I was least excited about – I think it’s a little boring, although I do look great in it.   Based on the comments section and the conversations I had in person with friends and family, it seems that, generally speaking, you found the blue/brown plaid too busy, and thought the light blue wasn’t quite slimming enough and would get washed out on TV.  A few observant Ellen fans pointed out that the furniture on the set is red, so the red plaid shirt would blend right in, which is true (and, yes, I knew that, but I threw the red plaid shirt into the mix because I liked the way it looked on me).

Meanwhile, I’m with you 100% on the pants choice – I like the dark jeans the most as well.  The distressed jeans cost me $80, so I’m more than happy to go return them.  I’ve been dropping a pant size every 2 months or so, and $80 is too much to spend on jeans I’ll only be wearing for 2 months.

These results have given me a lot to think about!  Does this mean that I’ll be wearing the brown shirt when I tape the show?  You’ll recall at the end of yesterday’s post I added a little disclaimer [“I promise to take these poll results into consideration when I make my choice (which, in all honesty, may not be made until I’m backstage at Ellen)”] and I plan on sticking to it, which means you’ll have to tune in on Tuesday to find out!

Okay – I need to go get some shuteye, because a camera crew from Ellen is arriving at my place bright and early in the morning to film some footage for my segment.  My Ellen experience starts tomorrow!

Thanks again, and…

…Keep it up, David!

Survey Results Are In!

December 3, 2010

Thanks to everyone that commented and voiced their opinion on yesterday’s post, where I solicited for help on a ridiculously important matter that will affect all of mankind for years to come: choosing which sportcoat I should purchase to wear at an upcoming wedding.  With 20 comments, it became my most highly-commented-upon post ever, beating out the previous record, set last weekend by my post about flying (which you should read if you haven’t yet!).  I also got a lot of folks commenting for the first time – so, if you’re one of them and are new to Keep It Up, David, then welcome!  I hope you hope back for more.

I’ll get straight to the results.  I presented two options:

They look pretty similar with they’re side-by-side like this, but Option #1, on the left, had a subtle gray pinstripe and was $20 cheaper, and Option #2, on the right, had a less-subtle blue pinstripe (you can see pinstripe details in yesterday’s post).

Between the comments section and some votes that came in via Twitter, here’s how you all voted:

  • Option 1:     12 votes
  • Option 2:     11 votes

Neck and neck!

I mentioned yesterday that I was already leaning towards one of the jackets, but didn’t say which, as I didn’t want to sway votes, but now I can reveal that I agree with 52% of the respondents, and like Option 1 more.  My reasons are pretty much ones that y’all spelled out in your comments:  The fit is a little better (like Kerianne and Tracy said), it’ll be more versatile (like Annie and Kristy said), and I like that it’s a more classic look (like Laura said).  Yes, it’s the more expensive of the two, but it was still 40% off, and between the coat and the pants, I’m still only spending $120, which is pretty freakin’ cheap.

This weekend, Option 2 is getting returned.

Thanks again for your help, lovely readers!  Keep it up, Readers!  And…

Keep it up, David!

PS – Just wanted to share a quick health-related update – Just got back from the dentist, where I had some x-rays taken and had a teeth cleaning, and I’m in great shape, oral hygiene-wise.  The direct quote from my dentist, Dr. Lala, was “everything looks pretty good!”  Two additional notes.  1) I love my dentist’s name.  I just want to sing it out when I walk in his office or call to make an appointment.  I don’t, though.  2) If you want to make your hygienist laugh, take a look at the green container of tooth polish that she’s opening as she preps to clean your teeth and say, “Oh, I’m guessing that’s jalapeno-flavored?”  Got a much bigger laugh that I was anticipating.  Oh!  And my hygienist’s name was Tuesday!  That office is full of fantastic names.
