How was your turkey day? Mine was wonderful – lots of family, laughs, and great food. And abiding by the rules of my annual pledge helped guide me through the day without overeating or going into a food coma! I did break a couple rules, though, in minor ways, and I’ll get to that. I feel like Thanksgiving is sneaking up on me this year. It’s next week! It doesn’t seem like a year has gone by since then last time I tucked into a plate of turkey, stuffing, potatoes, and the rest, but it has.
It’s the time of year when a lot of people start giving up on their health and weight loss goals. Why bother during the holidays, when you can start over fresh in January? My answer to that is simple: I work too hard during the rest of the year to let go and senselessly gain weight back, especially when I have a plan to get me through food-based celebrations.

THANKSGIVING IS TWO WEEKS AWAY! My mouth is already watering when I think about turkey… stuffing… gravy… cranberries… pie… And pictures like this, featuring my Thanksgiving plate from last year, are no help whatsoever:
Thanksgiving is a fantastic holiday for gathering with family and friends, sharing good times, and honoring all the things we’re grateful for. It also can be an engraved invitation to gorge yourself silly, pass out into a food coma, and, if you’re trying to lose weight, undo weeks of hard work.
But it doesn’t have to be. I have a simple pledge that I use to negotiate Thanksgiving Day, and guess what? IT WORKS! It allows me to eat whatever I want, without feeling guilty, and without ever having to go change into a pair of fat pants. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s almost Thanksgiving! Holidays can sometimes make me anxious. I know I can eat sickening amounts of food (and I spent years doing exactly that), but I don’t want to do that anymore. On the other hand, holidays are built around food traditions, and I’d like to partake in them.
