I was in Chicago over this past weekend, and it was drizzly all Saturday night. The weather predicted rain all Sunday morning too, but, thankfully, the clouds dried up, and that was a good thing, because I had a stair race that morning, and this one was outdoors. At Comiskey Park!
I know, I know, the home of the Chicago White Sox hasn’t been named Comiskey Park in well over a decade. But Read the rest of this entry »

The end of the year is coming soon, but there’s no time to rest. I’ve done seven stair races so far in 2017, and I’ve got five more lined up between now and the end of December!
Photo from the US Bank Tower race a week and a half ago, taken on the final flight of stairs, 75 stories up!
I’ll be racing in four different cities – including two I’ve never raced in before. I’m Read the rest of this entry »

I competed in my 16th and final race of 2016 on Saturday, and the setting was a truly spectacular venue.
Yes, it’s a stadium. Yes, it’s a big one! (It holds 93,000.) And YES, it has hosted the Olympic Games TWICE. It’s the Read the rest of this entry »

I resisted for years, but over the weekend, as I was laid up with an injured foot, I finally bit the bullet and joined Snapchat.
There’s only one problem: I don’t know what the hell I’m doing! HELP! Read the rest of this entry »

Hope everyone had a fun long weekend. I spent most of it stuck on the couch, thanks to my bum foot. I binge-watched every episode of “Stranger Things” (loved it), but I was also productive: I registered for some autumn stair races!
FULL DISCLOSURE: I’m about to humbly ask you to donate money to charity on my behalf for the umpteenth time, so grab your wallet. I need your help so I can compete in three fantastic events… including my first race in an Olympic venue!

I’m in the home stretch of my 2015 race calendar! I’ve competed in THIRTEEN RACES so far this year – ten stair races, plus three runs (see the full list here). I only have two more left! One is in this towering downtown Los Angeles skyscraper…
…and the other is in the home of the Read the rest of this entry »

I went on a spree over the weekend and registered for stair races that will keep me busy between now and December. The first one is less than two weeks away! And it’s in this behemoth:

Problem: I have stair races coming up in a few weeks, starting with a climb to the 103rd floor of the Willis (formerly Sears) Tower in Chicago. I haven’t been in a stairwell since my last race, at the US Bank Tower, a few weeks ago. I need to train!
Solution: Time to find a skyscraper to train in! The other night, I did just that.

Damn, Saturday was an exciting day! I competed in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s CF Climb, and it was a milestone race.
Not only was it my 5th stair climb race, but it was my 10th race overall! (That number also includes a 5k, three 10ks, and an open water swim. Read about all of them on my Races & Events page.)
BEST YET, I set a personal record! More on that later. First, check out the building I scaled: The 54-story Figueroa at Wilshire building in downtown Los Angeles:

On Saturday I’m competing in the CF Climb, a race up the stairwell of the Figueroa at Wilshire tower in downtown Los Angeles. It’s a charity event for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and it’s the first stair climb race where I’ve given myself a very specific and challenging time-based goal.
Holy hell, I’m experiencing deja vu while writing this! It’s because Read the rest of this entry »
