I love a race that ends with a view. It’s one of the things that got me hooked on stair racing – there’s nothing better than a finish line 60 or 70 stories above the ground! The finish line at Conquer the Overlook has a magnificent view… Check it out!

I ran a race over the weekend and it kicked my ass. I’ve done some tough races in my day, and even though this was only a 5K, it ranks up there among the most difficult. Why? HILLS. More specifically, HILLS and STAIRS. These are the stairs at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. They’re colloquially known as the Culver City Stairs.

I’ve got a lot of catching up to do! My short, depression-based reprieve from blogging is over, and I’ve been busy busy busy. First up, I want to tackle the race I did before the depression struck… a race that completely wiped me out. It was called Conquer the Overlook, and it took place at a familiar venue: the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook in Culver City, where there’s a 282-step stairway carved up the side of a huge hill:
