I want to get back into monthly weigh-ins. And since a new month began a couple days ago, I stepped on a scale, and was down another pound! I had weighed myself midway through April, for the first time since I began working from home, and had lost 9.2 pounds at that point. That’s now a total of 10.2 pounds lost in the seven weeks that my state has been under a Stay-at-Home order. (Here’s how I’m doing it: Part 1 and Part 2)
Getting back into monthly weigh-ins means I should also get back into updating my weight loss chart. That’s on my to-do list. But, in the meantime, I can update something else that’s been a constant for the past seven years: my Cardio Miles.
I track all the miles I cover while exercising, whether it’s cardio machines, running, swimming, or my long walks with JJ. I don’t include shorter daily walks with JJ, but if I’m walking for 45 minutes or more, and counting that as my exercise for the day, than I’ll include it. I typically do these longer, 45-minute-or-more walks about once or twice a week, to recover from my other, more intense workouts.
I’m diligent about keeping notes, in my workout calendar, about the exercise that I do. I always include the distances, when it’s measurable. But for the first three-and-a-half months of the year, I wasn’t tallying up those numbers to add them to my total. I suppose I figured that with the data on hand, I could add them up whenever, and apparently whenever stretched from January to February to March to April.
Towards the end of April, I decided enough was enough, and busted out the calculator. Here’s my update from the first four months of 2020.
I began 2020 with 5,843.1 cumulative Cardio Miles since I began tracking them, in the summer of 2013.
In January, I covered 88.5 miles, bringing my new total to 5,931.6 miles.
In February, I covered 69.7 miles, bringing my total to 6,001.3 miles. Had I known I was so close to a milestone, I might’ve planned it to end the month at exactly 6,000… but alas, you miss out on cool opportunities like that when you don’t pay attention! Although it is pretty cool that I hit that special milestone on a special day… Leap Day!
In March, I covered 92.2 miles, bringing my total to 6093.5 miles.
And in April, I covered 91.8 miles, bringing my total to 6,185.3 miles.
6,185.3 total miles! For the sake of comparison, it’s 3,450 miles from Seattle to Key West, Florida, so this is like I’ve done that trip… and come 3/4rds of the way back!

PS – I’m ending this post of a pic of JJ, under my desk, when I work from home. He typically spends an hour or so, in the morning, curled up at my feet, before he gets bored and goes to his perch watching for squirrels out the window.
