Snacky Picnic At The Hollywood Bowl With The Muppets!

Last night I went with friends to “The Muppets Take The Bowl” – the most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, Muppetational concert event I’ve ever been to.

Maggie, Mat, me, Jen, and little Callie before the show started.

It was at the Hollywood Bowl – the huge, 18,000-seat outdoor amphitheater in the Hollywood hills – a venue where I’ve celebrated major non-scale victories AND had majorly difficult stair workouts.

The show was basically enormous, live version of the classic Muppets TV show. There was lots of songs and music, classic sketches (like “Pigs in Space” and the Swedish Chef), a special guest star (SNL’s Bobby Moynihan), plus the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra played all the music live. Oh, and fireworks! It was a once-in-a-lifetime event, and for lifelong Muppet fans like me, an unforgettable treat.

Once of the great things about the Hollywood Bowl is that, in addition to their concessions, you can bring your own food and drink, including alcohol. It was an evening show, so I decided to pack a snacky picnic that could easily be shared and also serve as my dinner.

My only parameters? Keep it healthy! (I’m sure you saw that one coming!) What to see what I brought?

Assorted Veggies and Hummus. Carrots, celery, cucumber, and the last few radishes that I didn’t use in my radish salad. The hummus was the last of the roasted beet hummus that you saw in my cucumber chain post.

Meat and Cheese. Store-bought salami and provolone roll-ups, for protein. And because it’s delicious. It’s like eating the good part of a sandwich, without any of the carbs!

Fruit. Fresh strawberries, and a handful of dried apricots in a baggie.

Crunch. Raw almonds and fried green beans. The green beans are so good: whole green beans, fried and salted so they’re light and crispy. They’re not a low-calorie food (thanks to the oil they’re cooked in), but they’re low-carb, and more nutritious than, say, potato chips.

Peach Lemonade. This came from a mix, and this whole water bottle had 10 calories.

All this made for a delightful, delicious, and healthy meal… a great accompaniment to a great show!

Keep it up, David!
