Food Photos, Food Photos, Food Photos!

I’ve been at my parents’ house in suburban Detroit for over a week now, and it’s been a good time. A hot, humid, good time. Thanks to my relatively new commitment to logging my food on My Fitness Pal (21 days and counting!), I’ve been paying better attention to what I’m eating, and how much. And I’m taking photos of my meals. Wanna see some?

(Find out my reasons for using My Fitness Pal by reading this post and this post.)

I met up one night with Mike and Debbie, friends I’ve known since middle school. We went to One Eyed Betty’s in Ferndale, and had a great meal. We split a couple appetizers: their Scotch eggs and their octopi.

Look closely: one of our Scotch eggs has a double yolk. Lucky us! I should have bought a lottery ticket.

Is that a tentacle sticking out of your mouth or are you just happy to see me?

The picture of my entree, a wedge salad, didn’t come out, but everything was delicious.

After dinner, we pumped about $8 in quarters into the original “Simpsons” arcade game, and made it to Stage 7. Lots of memories! Then we took a selfie in terribly lighting in the parking lot.

A couple days prior, I drove my aunt to the airport, and since I was headed to the gym directly after, I loaded up on car snacks, since I had nearly two hours of drive time ahead of me.

That’s my aunt Annie’s hand. Your hand is famous now, Annie! Annie is starring in a community theater production of “Little Women” at the end of the month. So if you’re in the La Verne, California area and are looking for a fun outing, drop me a line and I’ll send you more info!

I’ve also been cooking a lot. My mom and I made spaghetti and meatballs one night, using pasta made from edamame (soybeans).

The calorie count is similar, but edamame pasta has less than 1/2 the carbs of regular pasta and 24g of protein per serving, so it’s a smart swap. That big bowl had 770 calories.

Another night, I made a shrimp and scallop stir-fry with a creamy pepper sauce, served over quinoa.

I’d share the recipe, but I made it up as I went along and now I’m not sure I could remember it. That whole bowl was 585 calories.

I’ve also been working out in the mornings, before work, and that’s made me hungry for big breakfasts. So I’m eating eggs every day. Some days I whip up egg and veggie scrambles…

…but yesterday I made the best breakfast sandwich ever:

English muffin + 2 eggs + 2 ounces turkey pastrami + 1 ounce white cheddar + 4 slices avocado = 475 calories and a sandwich so tall I couldn’t fit my mouth around it.

My mom and I both noticed that we’re running low on vegetables. “I’ll take care of it,” I said. Her reply: “Those are my five favorite words!”

Keep it up, David!

I’m posting more food photos on my Twitter account, so follow me there for daily updates!
