A Workout For the Record Books

January 13, 2014

This past Saturday, I did something that I’ve never done before. I’ve never even come close to accomplishing what I did on Saturday. It was a record-shattering workout, in more ways than one!

On Saturday, I completed a six-hour, 15.7-mile urban hike throughout Silver Lake that involved 42 staircases and 4,314 steps. Yes, it was exhausting. Yes, I’m still sore. And yes, it was awesome.

Here’s just one of the staircases – we climbed 42 of these bad boys:

Food, Glorious Food…

January 9, 2014

…Hot sausage and mustard.  While we’re in the mood,  Cold jelly and custard!

I’m not even a fan of Oliver! and yet that song has been stuck in my head, because I’m just wrapping up a monstrous grocery shopping excursion. I can’t remember the last time I spent so much money on groceries.

And boy, did I need it. My cupboards were bare. My fruit bowl was nearly empty, except for Read the rest of this entry »

Nothing Beats a FLAT!

January 8, 2014

I promised last time that this post was going to be about food, but there’s been a change of plans. And for that I can thank… my flat tire.

Back to the Weights

January 7, 2014

I’m writing this late at night, a couple hours after coming home from a great night at the gym. It was great because I lifted weights for the first time since December 7th – almost exactly one month ago.

My First Weigh-In of 2014!

January 1, 2014

Happy New Year! I hope everyone has a fantastic 2014. Make it the best year yet!

It’s the first of the month, which means it’s time for my monthly weigh-in. I only have a weigh-in once a month because I’ve learned the hard way that if I weight myself more frequently, I start obsessing over numbers, which leads to undue stress and bad behaviors. Conversely, if I weigh myself less frequently, I start to lose accountability, and that also leads to no good. It was a trial and error process for me to settle on my once-a-month regimen, but it’s been working for me, so I’m gonna stick to it.

By the way, I hide my scale under my bed when I’m not using it (which is most of the time) – out of sight, out of mind!

I weighed myself this morning, and here’s my weight loss chart with the results:
