Workout Update

July 22, 2012

The last time I wrote about my exercise, a few days ago, I had to give myself a pep talk and remind myself that working out five times a week instead of six was just fine.

Well, here’s the update: It’s now Sunday, the start of a new week, so I can look back at the week that just ended and say, quite definitively, that I did not work out five times last week.

I worked out four times.

And skipping that one additional workout this past week makes me feel like I’m off my game and that I should stop working out altogether for a while. I wish I was exaggerating, but I’m not. Getting that fourth workout in was a struggle, too. But I did it, and I’m not even sure how.

Comment From My Brother

July 19, 2012

If you’re a regular reader of this blog and the comments at the bottom of each post, than there’s a good chance you’ve seen a comment by a member of my immediate family. My two sisters, Laura and Sarah, are frequent commenters, as is my mother, who comments, appropriately enough, under the name “Mom.” Even my father, who would be the first to admit that he’s not a fluent typer, has piped up a couple times (although most of the time he delivers his comments to me over the phone). There’s only one person who hasn’t ever commented before… and that’s my brother Steven.

Until now.

Listening to My Own Words

July 17, 2012

One of the questions I get asked all the time is this:

“How often do you work out?”

I have a standard answer that rolls off my tongue without me even thinking about it:

“I aim for six workouts a week, but five workouts a week is acceptable.”

That answer it completely one hundred percent true. This morning, though, I realized I’ve only been focusing on half of it, and I need to make a change. Here’s what went down:

What’s In The (Brand-New) Crockpot? Part Seven

July 17, 2012

On Sunday I got to break in my brand new fancy-pants Crockpot! It was a very exciting day. I couldn’t wait to pull that lid off and sample the contents, but I had to endure hours and hours of waiting, because as you know, Crockpots don’t cook things fast. They cook them slow… which is why they’re also known as slow cookers (whoever thought that name up should definitely get bonus points).

So… are you ready? Ready for the first-ever edition of this game that features my brand-new crockpot? Strap on your knee and elbow pads, because it’s time to play!

WHAT’S IN THE CROCKPOT?

Sunday (!) Weigh-In

July 15, 2012

After a couple years of only weighing myself on Tuesdays, I must admit it’s a little strange to now weigh myself on different days of the week. I decided a few weeks ago that I’d switch my weigh-ins to the first and fifteenth of every month, instead of every other Tuesday, to better accommodate my new plan involving my weight loss chart, which I’m now only updating at the beginning of every month. It seems so convoluted when I type that all out, but it’s really just the way things have evolved!

Need another hint?

Black Velvet Apricots

July 13, 2012

I stumbled across a variety of fruit the other day at the store. The sign said they were Black Velvet Apricots, and my ears perked up. Apricots are one of my favorite stone fruits – they’re the perfect size for a snack, and I can literally tear them in half with my fingers and remove the pit without my hands getting covered in juice. And you know me, I’m a sucker for never-before-seen produce items! So I bagged up 5 of these Black Velvet Apricots and brought ’em home.
