Chart Update.

I said I wasn’t gonna do it yesterday, but I weighed myself today.  It was weigh-in day, after all, and so many of you, in so many words, over a variety of social networks and modes of communication, basically told me to MAN UP and just do it.  So I did it.

I was pretty sure yesterday that I would post a gain this week.

I was right.

Here’s my chart:

THREE POUNDS.  BIGGEST. ONE-WEEK. GAIN. EVER.

Ugh.  I’m still processing this (which is why this blog post is so tardy… I don’t really have much to say).

Blogging is easier when I’m on a roll.

I’m also trying to just move on, and trying not to let myself linger and dwell on negative, damaging thoughts and feelings.  I can’t let myself feel disgusted and disappointed in myself all god-damn day long.  So far, I’ve been doing pretty well at that.  Thankfully, I’ve been distracted – I’m helping out some friends with a big project at their office, so I’m keeping busy.   Still – keeping positive is a reason to say…

…Keep it up, David.

Keep it up, David! You’re an inspiration! Don’t let this set you back. Just jump back into the swing of things!

David! We are all human – thus not perfect in any way, shape or form – literally! You are doing a great job, one that I cannot even seem to begin… I am so fearful of yet again disappointment. When I read about your journey it gives me hope that one day I can do what you have done. Not every day or situation is going to be a positive one, but at least you try. Moving forward his how you have gotten to this point and what an amazing point it has been! What if you had let bad days like this make you give up all together? Can you imagine where you would be right now if you hadn’t pushed forward? You are healthier now than ever before and that is something to be proud of and most of all you are touching peoples lives and making a difference! Keep it up David!

Awww, David, I’m in the same boat — up 2.6 pounds. I can blame TOM for some of the gain, but the fact remains that I haven’t been tracking or drinking enough water. We both can do better!

  3. Caron says:

Yep, jump right back in there and “Keep it up, David!”

  4. Eileen says:

don’t beat yoiurself up David…you have been doing fabulously so don’t let the gain depress you! Keep your chin up and other than trying to realize what went wrong and correct it, its another day and another chance to do great things!~ KEEP IT UP DAVID!!

Negative thoughts can absolutely be damaging David,as you well know and since you’ve been on the journey this long why sabotage yourself with self-doubt over a few pounds. In my 3.5 years I’ve had so many ups and downs that I’ve driven myself crazy with self-doubt and all that’s done is make the journey longer.I think you have done an excellent job and will continue to make progress with what your doing.Just the fact that you did blog about it(I know the feeling of procrastination)and not wanting to do something, but you did and you know that we,your readers rely on these updates. As always I thank you for being honest and keeping us updated on your journey,it is a pleasure to follow your progress and learn something from you each and every time.

Keep it up David, you are my inspiration! remember I just started with you. My weigh in is on Thursday.. I THINK I have done pretty good some days but I know I will do better next week!

  7. Lynn says:

I am proud of you David for stepping on the scale, because you needed to see what you already knew. No negative Nelly talk allowed, we are all here for you. I know how difficult it is to live alone and try to stay on track because my husband took a job 1200 miles away from me and I could not join him for 6 mos.; I proceeded to gained 30 lbs! I wish I could be like “normal” people and eat off of my program and not worry about gaining weight, but I can’t and it sucks! Hang in there and Keep your chin up David!!!

  8. Trina Jean says:

There will always be setbacks, don’t let it get you down. I think you are AMAZING. You will bounce back in no time. KEEP IT UP, DAVID!

  9. Lynn says:

I don’t normally post twice here in one day but I thought this was worth sharing. One of the exercises I have learned studying nutrition is taking a craving inventory. For one week, keep a journal of every food you crave and rate the craving on a 1 to 10 scale with 10 being the strongest desire. Write down your thoughts next to each entry on how that craving is a response to an imbalance in your diet or life.
    Craving Rating:
    Time of Craving:
    Type of Craving:
    Thoughts:
This has worked for me in the past and I hope it helps. Sometimes the body is trying to tell you something and you just have to stop and listen.

    Hi David,

You did the right thing man! No need to beat yourself over it. We ALL have weeks where we gain, it just happens. Maybe try keeping a snack in the car so when you do go get gas, you won’t need to buy anything else? Just a thought.

I’m going to be launching my blog soon, I hope you will take a look once it’s up.

Once again, just keep holding on. You’ll make through! 🙂

  11. I’m proud of you for facing the scale! It’s so hard when you just know the number isn’t what you wish it would be. Hang in there…it’s a moment in time. You are the same amazing, wonderful, inspirational David that you always have been! I can’t wait for the post where you kicked that number’s ass!!!

  12. Sara says:

I was in the same boat last week, I didn’t want to go to my WW meeting for fear of what the scale would say and I’m still feeling the same way this week. I went last week and I’ll go again tomorrow–but I’m still scared. I don’t know what is in the water, but it’s going around the blog world because so many of my friends are also just stuck or having a few hiccups–BUT we are all so supportive of each other I really think that makes a huge difference in the journey. At least for me it does!

So, know that we are thinking of you, we are cheering for you and dang it you have done so well and WILL continue to do so well so remember that! 🙂

  13. It is all a journey and figuring out how much wiggle room you have with your diet.
It always turns out we don’t have as much as we’d like.
Loosing just one pound is excruciating hard work, gaining it back easy peasey.
O.K. so what you ate the last week = gain 3 lbs.
Fun was had, lesson was learned.
This week back on the program.
Don’t beat yourself up. Discipline is hard. We all need a little fun from time to time.
THe key is to bounce back and get in the groove after your little ‘break’.

  14. nicolette atkins says:

David — it’s sucky. Big time sucky. And I wish I could cheer you up. How does a big database entry project sound to you? Ha-ha! You are a wonderfully inspiring to me and to thousands of others. And you are just the bestest friend and nicest person anyone could hope to have. We love having you around and hope that you mood lightens soon. Hey, here’s thought– you love rollercoasters. So, just think of this as another ride on the biggest, longest, scariest and most thrilling one of them all.

  15. Erin says:

I don’t ever comment, but I read your blog and I just wanted to remind you we all have bad times. You are not going to lose weight every week, which you already know, and the fact that you “manned up” and weighed in is a good thing. By avoiding it, you are basically lying to yourself and acting like the problem doesn’t exist – I do this ALL the time.

Just use this time as a reminder of what the bad stuff does and keep up the good! You’ve got this 🙂 Maybe it’s time to change things up with some kind of new/fun exercise? Some yoga, mountain biking, hiking, beach volleyball or something else outdoors to get back in the groove!
