Announcing… My First CONTEST and GIVEAWAY!

Who doesn’t like winning free stuff?  I do, I do! Hopefully you do too, because I’m happy to announce Keep It Up, David’s first ever contest and giveaway!

Here’s the backstory. Last night, I got an email from my mom.  Here’s part of it:

Be on the watch for a Valentine’s box… expected to arrive on Friday.
David, you can share… remember, it’s the thought.  :-)   Not intended to sabotage diet.

Not intended to sabotage diet? I can’t wait!  Whatever could it be?

Here’s where the contest and giveaway part comes into play.  I’m turning my mom’s well-intentioned Valentine’s Day care package into the first-ever prize for a Keep It Up, David reader!  Based on the one clue provided (that the contents are “not intended to sabotage diet”), I’m guessing there’s some unhealthy food items involved, but which ones?  Whoever guesses correctly (or comes closest to guessing) what my mom mailed to me wins the entire contents of the care package.

Just like my mom said in her email to me, I’m not trying to derail anyone’s weight loss attempts or successes.  I just know that, chances are, I won’t want to keep any unhealthy food in my house, and this contest is more fun for me than throwing it away.  Plus, as I’m currently, ahem, between jobs, I don’t have an office to take it to, so sharing is a little trickier for me as well.  If you win, I’m not saying you have to eat it.  You can do with it what you want: eat it, give it away, relish in the joy of winning a contest and then throw it out, melt it down and smear it on your lover’s body… really, it’s up to you.
Here’s some fine print:
  • You can enter by leaving your guess in the comments section of this blog.  BE SPECIFIC.  Entries like “Chocolate” or “Candy” won’t be considered a legitimate entry.  I want brand names or descriptions, i.e. “Milk Chocolate M&M fun size bags” or “chocolate-covered peanut butter hearts.”
  • Keep in mind that the package may contain a number of different items, so perhaps consider making a short list of items as your entry.  If you list everything under the sun, I’ll get annoyed, which could lead to disqualification.   Just so everyone is on a little more level of a playing field (as some of my readers may know my mom), I’ll give you all one hint as to one of my mom’s favorite candies:  It rhymes with Schmootsie Rolls. Put on your thinking caps for that one!
  • Mom, you can’t win, so don’t bother entering.
  • If no one wins outright, then I will use my own discretion to determine who came closest.  When I’ve determined a winner, I’ll contact that person via email (since you provide me an email whenever you leave a comment) to get their mailing address.
  • The deadline for entries will be whenever I get my hot little hands on the actual package, which may be, per my mom’s email, on Friday (tomorrow).

GOOD LUCK!

Keep it up, David!

  15. Tavi says:

    possible V-day gift options…

If your mom loves you, she sent a package of oreos.
If she really loves you, a jar of hot fudge from Sanders OR an array of baked goods from Zingerman’s Deli.

If none of these… then, I hate to say it but…

Your mom is like a fire place in Southern California, Beautiful but useless.

    • David says:

Oh Tavi. Your mom is like a cactus. She’s lovely, she’s bold, and you have to drive all the way to the desert to see her.
You see how I made that nice? :-)

My favorite part is that I know for a fact that both our moms read this blog.

  21. James Singleton says:

First tootsie rolls, maybe red or pink for Valentine’s Day, M&Ms pink or red, some homemade cookies and that it!

  22. Tina says:

i would say a vase or coffee cup decorated with ribbons and tootsi pops and maybe some chocolate suckers and other suckers not enough to hurt a diet but just enough to make you regret eating it. i keep thinking a bouquet of suckers i guess cause i am trying to quit smoking and that is what i keep buying not alot of chocolate mainly suckers.

  24. Laura B. says:

I’m totally on the conversation heart bandwagon — it’s a tiny yet fun candy. If we’re all correct, do we each get one piece of candy? :) Also, I think she’ll send a thoughtful Hallmark card (that’s what my mom would have sent). Happy Valentine’s Day! Can you provide a healthy Valentine’s treat recipe on Monday?

  25. SusanM says:

    Hi David,
Love your blog – it’s quite fun AND inspirational.

I think that your loving mom made you a tin of chocolate chip cookies but instead of chocolate chips, she put in bits of cut-up tootsie rolls…

    Keep it up David !!!

  26. Hmmm….because I’m lacking a Valentine this year, I feel compelled to give this my best shot..but the truth is that I want tulips and a giant reese’s PB heart…

    But I digress…;)

My official guess is the PB heart, of course…a long-sleeved shirt and cashews.

Regardless, I love the fact that your mom wants to be your valentine. <3 <3 <3

That’s what I’d want my Mom to send me if she were still alive.

  30. How cute is your Mom!

Mom’s always know best so I’m thinking she is sending you a roll or two of conversation hearts, heart shaped gummy candy packages and something delicious and homemade. I’m thinking chocolate fudge, maybe even tootsie roll inspired!

I’m a mom David, and even though I shouldn’t have; I sent my son homemade fudge for Christmas while he was at Air Force Boot Camp! YIKES… they ate the fudge in front of him, and told him how good his mom’s fudge was!

    Best Wishes! =P
